What is Medicare?

Medicare is the health insurance program offered by the U.S. government. It’s primarily for people 65 and older, but some younger people with disabilities can qualify as well. There are different parts to Medicare that cover various healthcare needs:

  • Part A covers inpatient stays like hospital care, skilled nursing facilities, and hospice care.
  • Part B covers outpatient services like doctor visits, medical supplies, and preventive care.
  • Part D is optional and covers prescription medications.
  • Medigap is a separate insurance plan that can help pay for costs not covered by original Medicare (Parts A & B).
